CCA Project Gallery presented a new work by Langlands & Bell.
For project at CCA, Langlands & Bell worked directly on the walls and the floor of the gallery using the three letter acronyms which designate the identity of international airports worldwide, such as LHR JFK TYO KIX, as an additional architectural template of the conflation of time and place.
KIX JFK MEX SHA CAI ROM SYD ATH BER LHR SAO DUB VIE
Three letter acronyms used to designate international airports world wide
An Abstraction in non-fiction terms – formal perfection – riddled with indeterminacy
Points of recognition and an unseen redefinition of location
A public architectural template with a conflation of time and place – serialised as a sinister conformist
Corridors of solitude and isolation
Transience, alienation, disposability, discontinuity
Metropolitan centres – landing points – offering departures into the imaginary
A suspended future, tracking through a virtual metropolis, continuous replication between movement and stasis in the suburbs of an invisible world capital
Langlands & Bell stayed at CCA Kitakyushu as professor of the Research Program during a month of October 1997
