Joan Jonas was one of the first artists to integrate performance, video and the visual arts. These experiments contributed to paving the way for younger artists working in related genres. Focusing on these various media, Jonas continues to develop her work while exploring an ongoing concern with a narrative form. Often inspired by the other cultures she combines aspects of theatricality and the language of ritual in her practice.
