Saskia Sassen is the Ralph Lewis Professor of Sociology at the University of Chicago, and Centennial Visiting Professor at the London School of Economic. Her most recent books are ‘Guests and Aliens’ (New York: New Press 1999); ‘Globalization and its Discontents’ (New York: New Press 1998). Her edited volume ‘Cities and their cross border network’ will appear in 2002 (New York and London: Routledge). New fully updated editions of ‘Cities in a World Economy’ and ‘The Global City’ were just out in 2001. Her books have been translated into ten languages. In Japanese her books are with Iwanami Shoten and with Heibonsha. She is co-director of the Economy Section of the Global Chicago Project and is the Chair of the newly formed Information Technology, International Cooperation and Global Security Committee of the SSRC.
