Makiko Miyara

Makico Miyara is a vocalist from Ishigaki Island who has a unique style that closely preserves
folk music traditions while bringing them to life through diverse and dynamic phrases.
Her extraordinary singing prowess is highly acclaimed by many fellow musicians.
Miyara has released numerous albums as a solo artist and with Churamana, among others. In 2010,
Miyara contributed to the soundtrack for the popular TV drama series, and in 2012, she composed, wrote lyrics for, and performed the theme song for the movie “How to Make a
Penguin Couple,” expanding her artistic reach.
In 2022, a new project called Jus (an old word meaning “to hum”) was launched, featuring Miyara singing original songs written by Shigeharu Sasako (Choro Club, Ko-ko-ya) and Gerhen Oshima (Tingara, Churamana, coco←musika), who composed with a profound dedication to Okinawa.
In summer 2025, Jus released their 2nd album “God’s Melody ~Humming the Island Vol.2~”.
