CCA Kitakyushu Project Gallery presented a new work by Michel François.

Déjà vu is a new installation Michel François worked on during his stay at CCA Kitakyushu. François’ intention is to propose the same room twice to be visited – each one being the mirror of the other, in a sort of simultaneous circular relation where nobody knows which is the model to be reflected by the other. A kind of mise en abîme is put in perspective by different systems of mimetism.

The physical presence of the visitors in this endless circle is active and makes the relation between reality and fiction (or representation) even more complex. All together the construction of the room with the presence of the visitors and the system to memorize it create a sort of mental object which can be effective in a psychological level.

This mixed media installation is one of the researches François is doing in the field of perception and hallucination. What happen in our brain when someone has the feeling to live or to see something he has already lived or seen before?

Michel François stayed at CCA Kitakyushu as Professor of Research Program during a month of September 2003.
