CCA Islands will hold a concert featuring Mamoru Miyagi, Makico Miyara, and Ryosaku Sakieda
on Sunday, January 18, 2026, in Ishigaki Island, Okinawa
Prefecture, as part of the third phase of the “Retrace / Following the Sound”project that began in 2023.
As with previous events, the entire admission fee will be used to support emerging musicians and music professionals connected to the Yaeyama region.
The recipients will be selected by the three performers and announced on the day of the concert. The admission fee is 5,000 yen, though additional contributions are welcome.
Through the ongoing “Retrace / Following the Sound” project since 2023, CCA Islands continues to record and share untold stories about musicians connected to the Yaeyama region.
While these musicians are important bearers of Yaeyama traditions, the stories behind their individual activities have rarely been systematically documented until now. Retrace aims to question our perception of “culture” and “tradition,” engaging in dialogue with individual musicians centered in Yaeyama, tracing their activities, and recording and sharing their unique approaches through audio recordings and texts.
Additionally, Retrace is committed to supporting people aspiring to work in music and related fields.
Over the past few decades, the circumstances surrounding culture and performing arts have changed dramatically. Individual activities have spread in new forms and opportunities have increased, while the
number of people pursuing these fields has also grown, leading to greater diversity.
To maintain continuous and focused activity amid abundant choices, musicians and professionals who have just started their careers are expected to explore various approaches, both economically and musically.
Retrace aims to help them pursue their activities while clearly envisioning their future goals and prospects.
We sincerely thank everyone who has supported us through the past two concerts.
In November 2025, the second installment of Retrace featuring interviews with
Yukito Ara, Ken’ichi Shiroma, and Ayumi Yonaha titled “Retrace: Sound from Yaeyama 2025” is scheduled for publication.
It will include a CD produced from the concert recordings of February 1, 2025 (Japanese/English).
The collected interviews of Tetsuhiro Daiku, Hidekatsu, and Hiromi Kinjo is also available with a CD based on their concert of January 2024 (published by Peace Winds in 2024, Japanese/ English, pp. 230).
