Oladélé Ajiboyé Bamgboyé was born in Nigeria in 1963 and has lived in the United Kingdom since the age of 12, notably in Glasgow where he also received formal training in Chemical and Process Engineering. He lives and works in London, where he received a Masters of Arts degree in Media Art Theory and Practice from the Slade College of Art.
In resisting easy classifications about the nature of his work, Bamgboye continues to work with a variety of mediums ranging from traditional photographic practices, and the moving image. His use of the moving image, located before and beyond the narratives that cinema has traditionally introduced into artistic practice, has logically led to his exploration of electronic media. In addition, Bamgboye’s writings go beyond traditional canonical aesthetics, to probe matters of an anthropological, historical and social character. For Bamgboye the analysis of the construction of the conditions for the reception of his work are on an equal footing with the readings of the works themselves.
