CCA Kitakyushu Project Gallery presented ‘Street with human shadows 2’ by Kazuo Shinohara.

His artist’s book, ‘Street with human shadows’, published by CCA in 2006, consists of images from Shinohara’s personal archive with over 10,000 photographs from his research trips to cities in Europe, Africa and South & North America in the 70s and 80s. It also contains a text of his final public lecture in the symposium, at the workshop of the same title, organized by CCA, conceived from his unique view of the city. Shinohara’s gaze towards cities, focusing on the streets, defines the perspective perfectly, and the whole gives us a panorama, where the root of his thought on the city is visualized.

Shinohara’s photographs in ‘Street with human shadows’ were invited to the ‘Discovery Award’ exhibition of Les Rencontres d’Arles, 2010, and the forty small size prints were exhibited in collaboration with CCA Kitakyushu. In November 2010, the show was to travel to The Garage Center for Contemporary Culture, in Moscow, where Shinohara’s photographs will be exhibited as a slideshow.

‘Street with human shadows 2’ consisted of two parts; firstly the slideshow as in Moscow, with an additional twenty-five images to the original forty from Arles. In the second part, all the prints from Arles are displayed.
