CCA Kitakyushu Project Gallery presented a project by Sung Hwan Kim, who lives and works in New York.
Dog Video was first shown at STEIM, Amsterdam, as a chapter in the middle of a live performance in musical collaboration with David Michael DiGregorio aka dogr. The rest of the performance is lead by a musical concert/action/storytelling of safety and comfort of having boundaries versus the horror of dissipation of those boundaries, manifested through co-habitation, contact, communication, teaching, resemblance, haunting, and murder.
Other than voice, various musical instruments were used ranging from harmonium, bang-eul, jae-gum, kazoo, to the LiSa sampling program that accumulated sounds in layers forming them into their utmost thickness until there was no more text left.
The song used in Dog Video is based on Rilke’s text:
O longing for places that were not
Cherished enough in that fleeting hour
How I long to make good from afar
The forgotten gesture, the additional act
